Yeah we were ordered to evacuate Friday afternoon. So now I've been sitting here at my mother's house in NC waching the Weather Channel like a hawk. Stupid hurricanes!!! :chevy:

Well, good luck this year.

 

Our "season" is about over now. And I still have all the glass in the front of my house, and no new dents in my hoods. That's two years in a row that I've missed tornado damage...I should probably move before next year. :chevy:

Well there wasn't as much damage around here locally as I thought there would be, and the eye hit landfall about 25 miles west of here. I guess Ivan already cleared the path for this one last year, and uprooted just about everything that was uprootable. Luckily for me, my power was turned back on about 45 minutes before I got home yesterday, but I still have no cable, so no tv and no internet for me..darn it. At least I have an internet connection here at work.

I rode it out. The eye was within 10 miles of me. I was getting pretty scared for a while there. Thankfully this storm was more compact and faster moving than Ivan. I had a little damage, parts of the fence are down and lost some more trees.

Overall, everything is pretty good. I got power back Thursday evening.

No, I'm over in Fort Walton Beach. I left town (was ordered to since I'm in the AF) and just went home up in NC. Glad to hear you're alright. I was driving around town yesterday and today, and this place looks so ghetto now with all the damage. All these bank, fast food, and street signs are all bent over or destroyed. I haven't ventured towards the beach just yet to see how much damage was done over there though.

 

My apartment was fine though, but my grill was destroyed. NOOOOO!!!! :chevy: I kinda forgot to put that away since I was in a hurry to get out of here and try to miss all the outbound traffic.

I lived in Fort Walton Beach (just off of Mooney to be specific until this past christmas. I'm temporarily in Miami :chevy: but am looking forward to returning, hurricane or not... At least we seemed to fare a lot better this time around than during Ivan.

 

The evacuation traffic and was the only thing that I don't miss. I left around midnight the Sunday before Ivan hit (Ivan hit on wednesday night), and SR85 was extremely heavy, even then. I would include the gas shortages on that list as well, but I have a diesel truck as well and they never seemed to run out of that. :D

 

Glad to hear that y'all fared ok :)

Well, looks like we're gonna have to evacuate again. I already had to wait in line earlier for fuel. Trying to decide whether I want to go back to NC again or just go somewhere else. Might just go to New Orleans and party on Bourbon Street :thumbs:

I have a full tank, but I couldn't imagine what kind of nightmare it would be to leave here along with everyone else. :thumbs:

I just talked with a buddy of mine, and most likely we'll head down to Orlando. I think Seaworld is still having the special where it's free for military, so that's our plan for now. Nothing like a free trip to an amusement park. :thumbs:

As of right now, we're gonna stay. But we're watching it real close to see how bad it may get.

      There was talk over the last couple of years that the contract to build these trucks between GM and International would not be renewed.  International moved production of all their other trucks besides the companion CV model out of the Springfield plant some time ago when they opened their San Antonio plant.  That left Springfield only building the Silverado Medium Duty, International CV Series, and some Express/Savanna long wheelbase cutaways.  International also put the plant up for sale some time ago.  This all answered my earlier question as to why GM and International did nothing with these trucks since they were introduced, as they had basically become a market 'placeholder' with a finite life.    The Silverado Medium Duty/International CV trucks were interesting combination of a GM powertrain, electrical system, and K2XX Silverado cab with an International chassis that was supposedly designed for a step-van type vehicle they never produced.  They were manufactured in International's Springfield plant along with the IH MV series initially.  When first introduced, there was much talk that the Silverado Medium Duty/CV would eventually get a gasoline engine option along with other upgrades and GM and IH would work on a class 6/7 joint venture truck.  This was before VW bought Navistar out, after that happened no more was said.  Draw your own conclusions...   About the time talk started that the GM/IH joint venture was not going to be renewed, rumors started that GM would develop a new line of medium duty trucks themselves.  The story is the new trucks will be part of the next generation HD's due in 2028, and will still feature a 'straight rail' chassis design that the current medium duty has.  GM views this as a desirable feature that differentiates their truck from the competition.  A gasoline engine option is also expected.  As the current Silverado Medium Duty remains in production until September 2026 and there is still a lot of inventory available do not expect any official word for some time.   I believe GM remains committed to their successful partnership with Isuzu, and all the LCF models will still be available from Chevy Commercial dealers.  Isuzu is on the cusp of opening a new large plant in South Carolina and there is also speculation that this may result in new product for both Isuzu and Chevy Commercial dealers.

      I have a 2026 2500 HD Ultimate. My phone app says there’s a software update available. It’s something about improved battery management and something to do with the running boards. I follow the instructions for the update but the “Check for Updates” option is greyed out in my settings menu. Has anyone else seen this? How did you resolve it? The help message just says “see your dealer” if the download doesn’t work. I’m just trying to save a trip.

      Fuel mileage?  That's all how you use your right foot.  Exhaust will give you sound.   Stock exhaust 5.3 is 2.75" diameter piping.     If the truck is nice and worth putting some $$ into it, I'd go for a Corsa catback.  I had one on my 2019 old body 5.3 and it was just perfect.  Zero drone, just driving around and cruising on the highway you'd think it was stock, but when you opened it up it was like a Camaro with the factory dual mode.  Corsa bumps their catback to 3in diameter.
