I've been trying to backup my NAV disc so my original doesn't get scratched when I change it out for music cds. It doesn't seem to be working. What software, burner and disc have you guys been using to back it up? I can't figure out why its not working im using Nero and a AOPEN Dual Layer DVD-r with Verbatim dual layer media.

Which Nav system do you have? I have the Pioneer Avic-N1. They sent me an updated version for free when I registered online. Around six months later when I was cruizin the net I noticed another version. I re-registered and got it in the mail for free.

I got OEM Nav in a Envoy Denali, curious if anyone has copied the GM NavigationDVD.

Depending on how old, you might want to purchase the newest edition from GM? Ask your regular service advisor maybe. I bet someone will respond with a solution. There are plenty of techies out there. I would think someone has it out there for grabbing to burn! Good luck..

cbiggers--I sent you PM...however, I didn't know you had the Envoy nav radio. Is the nav disc for the Envoy the same as that used for the nav radios found on the Denali/05 Tahoe/Suburban/Yukon? Also, I don't know which version of the nav disc you have--I assumed that yours was a 3.0. Plus, I'm not too familiar with the brand of burner that you used to burn your disc...

Have you tried copying everything to the hard drive, and then copying to disk, or are you trying to do a direct disc to disc burn?

Also, how large is the OEM data? Consumer Dual layer burnable discs holder slightly less data than retail pressed discs.

I Did an ISO image to disc. Using Nero and then using Alcohol 120% to image and burn. The data shows fine on my pc but the DVD-rom wont read on the nav system

The oem data on 2.0 is only about 6gig. So i had plenty of room. I think its just the media type or maybe my freakin TNR won't read dvd+r's. PS2's and XBOX have picky lasers also so it wouldnt suprise me.

It is not picky lasers, it is intentional garbage in the first track. They put it there as a copyright protection. The copy programs see the data as trash and won't copy it. The PS2, Xbox, PS1 won't read the disc if it is not there. So, you will jave to find a writer and data that will copy the original disc completely, including the trash data. Look up how to back up a PS2/PS1 game, and I suspect you will find the answer. There is tons of info on it with a simple google search. I have not looked into it since my PS1 days, so I really do not remember the details.

I've been backing up PS1/PS2 games since it started. Your right about the PS1 games but its impossible to correctly copy a PS1 and have it work without a modchip. PS1 games have bad sectors wrote into them which CDRs will not record no matter what. So of course you need a modchip in the ps1/2. PS2s will not read alot of media. If you buy say Ritek it works great in most PS2s. If you buy Generic 25cent dvd from walmart it wont work but it'll read fine in a PC. I'm going to pickup some Memorex because I couldn't get verbatim to work. Its just a few bucks to test my theory. Some people have been successful at backing it up and some haven't.

It could very well be picky lasers--sort of; how else would you be able to explain why is it that a 3.0 burned copy I made can't be read in my INR nav, yet this exact same burned disc (not another burned copy) has no problem being read when I load it into my buddy's INR nav? I honestly don't think there is a "garbage" track on the GM 3.0 nav disc...or if there is, it must be a pretty lame one. In any case, a good ISO-image creator program (e.g., Alcohol or DVD Decrypter) should create a workable ISO of the nav disc. Someone else suggested burning the DL at 1x instead of 2.4x but I found that doing so didn't really make a difference as far as whether the burned copy worked.

Well, picky lasers that will not read are misaligned lasers. As far as burning slower, that is a good idea. The theory is the slower you burn, the fewer # of Pi errors you get, the more likely it can be read. For instance, my Home theater system is very picky about pi errors. Too many, or more "too large", and it will not read the disc. Yet my 40 dollar special will read just about anything.

New PS2's read +R older PS2's don't. It has to due the way the pots on the laser is set and what its made to read. All PS2's read dvd-r. I'm thinking if i get a Dual layer DVD-R it will maybe work. I've seen they have just came out so im going to order a DVD-R that burns DL DVD-R tommorow and a DVD-R DL disc tommorow. Xbox's are also a picky one when it comes to copies. Whats amazing is a Xbox will hardly EVER read a CD-R. But they will read CD-RW's depending on what brand because of the type of dye used. Ritek DVDs are usually the best media you can use i na PS2/XBOX because they use a superior dye compared to other dvds that may not read in a PS2/XBOX but a Ritek always works great. Hopefully a DVD-R DL will work.

I DID IT. I GOT A COPY TO WORK!!!!!!!!. I tried multiple DL +R's. The Nav unit I have will not read them and thats what I thought the problem was so I took a Regular -R and modified the ISO image and deleted alot of things to make it fit on the disc and of course I probably deleted thigns I need but it booted and showed me the GPS cords etc. I bought a new DVD-R DL Burner so now I should beable to burn the whole image and have it work no problem. So anyone who wants to make a backup of the image buy a $47 DVD-R DL Burner by pioneer and get a 3 pack of verbatim DL -R media. I haven't tested it but i'm %99 sure that is going to fix it. DVD+R is a ghetto usually incompatible format but -R should work great let you guys know wednesday when my stuff arrives!!!

Maybe the laser mechanism might be a wee bit different from nav model to nav model? Do you know if your Envoy TNR is the same one used in the GM fullsize trucks/SUVs?

There are 4 TNR NAV Units as far as i know, NEW TNR LUX, OLD TNR LUX. NEW TNR NON LUX, OLD TNR NON LUX. What actually changes is the supplier of the DVD lasers. Whoever offers them the best deal when they are going to buy another batch to put in the TNRs is how it happens to be different. Some of the companies read dvd+r and -r some wont read +r or -r i imagine. It all depends on how the POTS on the laser is set. If you wanna know more about Lasers look into the XBOX scene because older XBOX's won't read CDR's new ones will. XBOX has gone through about 5 different brands of Lasers, Samsung, Thompson and a few others I can't remember. The thompson dvd rom in the XBOX is the biggest POS ever. It won't hardly read ANYTHING except Original Games and music cds.
