DMax and Ally for Suburban

Hi guys, usually post in the light duty section, but I figured you may want ot know that after speaking with my brother last night, who works at Allison Transmission, that they have prototypes for an Allison that will fit in the Tahoe/Suburban and that the DMax/Ally combo will be offered in those in the near future. He actully said they tested the original Allison in a modified Sub as to have all the testing equipment in the vehicle...cool :D . He told me they build about 190k tranmission/year now for the trucks and that the DMax plant is at full output! Sounds like they are doing a good job putting out a quality product! Most importnatly, they are working on an allison/dmax combo for the light duty trucks too...1500 series, he told me it would more than likley be a downrated Dmax (not a lower cylinder number as previously discussed)+Ally combo for the 1500 series trucks...So, just thought I would post this as it will not be long until you can buy an HD (or LD) Suburban with a Dmax and Ally...later, :P:)

If that's the case; I'll be buying two Dmax Subs. Thanks for sharing.

There was a spy shot of a Sub in last months Car and Driver which mentioned the same info regarding diesel and a six speed trans for all trucks. Also mentioned a possibility of a V12 option for the Escalade.

I'd buy a 1500 DMAX!  :P  :P  :D  :)

I think they will sell a ton of these! I actually thought after I posted that I should not have...seeing as it is "insider" info sort of, but I am sure others that work at allisons have told people...anyway, too late now, they will be a great seller...esp the LD trucks :D , later, :D:D:D

Make that 4 orders. I know the re-designed Sub/Yukon XL/Escalade EXT is going on sale next June as an '07 model. Not sure if they'll have the new drivetrain ready in time or will come out as '08 model.

I have not seen anything scheduled for the Sub or Tahoe.

In 2006 there is going to be a smaller version of the Duramax for the Sierra and Express:

250 HP and 460 lb-ft, GVWR of 12300 pounds.

The transmission will be the Hydra-Matic 4L85-E electronically controlled four-speed.

That can be scheduled for other vehicles.

Right now a loaded up 3/4 Burb is over $55,000. What percentage of the population is going to be able to afford one with the $7,500 Dmax/Ally combo. Who nows after the new emmisions in 07 it could be over $8,000.

MSRP for a fully loaded LT 3/4 Suburban ton is $48K. Employee pricing + discounts is $38K.

MSRP #'s are BS, anyway.

Right now, a loaded LT 3/4 Duramax crew cab can be obtained for $38K, or less. GM discounts their trucks so much that the MSRP #'s are irrelevant.

Regardless, it would be a welcomed site in my book if they came to fruition.

I did not say I wouldn't welcome them. Did I? And yes MSRP's do give the dealers a starting point. The only reason you can get DMax/Ally, crew cab, LT for that price is because of the GM employee discount. Moving 05's for 06's. It all depends on supply and demand. In my area, a crew cab dmax won't last a week on the lots. Go to GMC.com and load up a Yukon XL 2500 (6.0 for that matter) with DVD, etc. $55,000 with my zip code. I'm like you, I would never pay MSRP, but after Aug 1 05, you will never get an LT Dmax CC under 40K again, ever.

Machine, I guess the point I was trying to get at was this. I'd bet half of the burban driving world could care less what is under the hood. All they care about is how many soccer balls and kids they can haul from one end of town to the other. If they could choose between identical vehicles, all except powertrain and fuel type, I think they would want to pay for the one that cost ~$7,500 less, with the same bells and whistles. Excursions offered powerchokes and v10's. Expeditions had leather and dvds too, but cost 10 grand less. Excursion-no-more. Enthusiasts like us are rare. I would love to own a DMax Burban. Soccer moms and business suits could care less. It was just something I thought of, not questioning the actual manufacturing of the beast.

my yukon stickered at 53, i went back and check out a new 2005 and it stickered at 55, same exact options and everything, dont know what happened, they seem to be losing things every year and going up in price every year, and what is bs is the ext, escalade, and esv's those things go for 60 plus after you put a few things on them, but i guess if your gonna spend that much on a truck then the extra doesnt mean too much

No, you didn’t. Looking for assurance? The dealers can start at MSRP and work down all they want. Smart consumers start at dealer cost and stop. I looked up the Chevy Sub LT ¾ - that’s where the $48K came from.
