No tow package on tahoe

My father in law's 2001 tahoe doesn't have a tow package (I know). I havent looked at the thing yet but what wiring needs to be done to get a flat 4 plug on it? Is there a certain GM harness I need or should I just buy a plug and install it on existing wires?

The wires you need may be tucked up under the rear bumper, if so just get a flat 4 plug,a test light, and wire it up.

Actually I think the wires are above the spare tire.

On my Burb, the wires were on the driver side frame rail next to the bumper bracket. But I think they are under the spare tire on the Tahoes. It is a bundles of seven wires going into a round connector. Anyway, they are labeled as to which wire does which. you can buy the connector at GM, which will include a 7 to 4 adaptor, or you can just splice into the wires you need.

I would seriously consider a transmission cooler as well.

I would second that STRONGLY! Heat will kill your trans in a heartbeat. Towing without a cooler is asking for a breakdown IMO.

I think he'll be good without a cooler since we are only towing a little uhaul trailer from amarillo to waco, texas. This will be the first time the tahoe and the driver have pulled anything in 115,000 miles and probably the last time for another long period of time. I appreciate the suggestion though. I'm going over to his house tonight to look at the tahoe. I'll let yall know how it turns out.
