8 Wire Trailer Connector

Just an FYI, I tried doing a search, and it didn't work for me.

If anyone is having an issue with your truck, and you know its your truck's trailer wiring (the trailer lights don't seem to work, but on other trucks it works fine).

I recently had this issue where only my turn signals worked, brakes were dim, running lights were dim, and hazards were basically non existant.

Turns out I was only getting 6-7 volts coming out of my trailer wiring plug.

After checking my wiring, my grounds, my flashers for the signals, fuses, everything, I was scratching my head.

I checked our other truck (2004 Buick Rainier), and it was showing 10 or so volts for the same functions I was getting 6 or 7 volts for.

I climbed under my truck to check the wiring one last time, and for giggles, I unplugged the wires from the backside of the trailer connector several times, and when I shook the connector, and slapped the spring door on the outside of the plug, all kinds of crud came out. I then checked the voltage, and back to 10 volts.

So, to save you guys a headache, check that plug first to make sure its not corroded.

You may want to go back out, shake all the crud out again, and add some dielectric greae to those connections. It will keep the water out, which should keep the crud out.

Funny you should mention it. When I get home from work today, I'm going down to the auto parts store, buying some CRC Electrical cleaner, yankin that connector out again, hosin it down good, let it dry, and putting some dialectric grease on it. I gotta tow a trailer home tomorrow (about a 100 mile trip back).
