1500hd or 2500

Which would you choose and why? I'm leaning towards 1500hd but still undecided based on loads and towing I'll be doing (landscape sidework and personal vehicle asside from my honda). Thanks!

The only difference between the two is the cab configuration. Everything under the body is the same. Same engine,tranny,brakes,ect.

GM had their head in their ass for a couple years.

 

the 1500HD and the 2500 both have the same 8600lb GVWR. At first GM offered the 2500 only as an extended cab. To get a CC 2500 you had to buy a 1500HD. The 1500HD has never been anything but a CC. For a year or so (2003 ?) GM changed all this and canceled the 1500HD and made the 2500 available with a extended cab or CC.

 

GM changed their mind again (2004 ?) and went back to a 1500HD.

 

 

So what this all means is that the 1500HD and 2500 are the same truck,they just have different cabs on them.

I wonder if thomas was really asking for the difference between the 1500HD and the 2500HD. Big difference. The reason I think this is because if I were looking at NEW trucks, there IS no 2500.

 

But any 1500HD is equal to a 2500 (non-HD). They're both 8600 GVW, and they're both identically equipped, trans, axles, brakes, as noted above.

 

The 8500 GVW truck is sometimes a 1500HD, and sometimes a 2500, depending on the model year.

 

But the 9200 GVW truck is always a 2500HD, well, wait a minute, my '95 K3500 was 9200 GVW, so the K3500 = K2500HD... are you confused yet?

 

Anyway, GM sells a lot more 9200 GVW trucks now that they're badged 2500HD's than they did when they were 3500's. You'd never see a 3500 on a dealer's lot, they were special order only. But dealers have 2500HD's all over the place.

Yep, the 1500HD is a little lighter than a similarly equipped 2500HD but I think it is only in 100-150 lb range. That is mostly because of frame wall thickness with the 2500HD at .197in and the 1500HD at .157in while a regular 1500 has a .106in wall thickness. Not sure on the fuel economy though, I guess it would be a little better due to the weight and the body on the 1500HD sits lower than the 2500HD, so that should help with wind resistance.
