Nav radio sound poor

I have an 2005 Avalanche. Just purchased a non-lux navigation radio and installed it myself. Went to a dealer and they un locked it. Navigation works well, but sound is just OK. Radio or CD sound is not as good as the standard factory radio I had before. Does anyone know, do I need to add an amp? Change speakers? The vehicle is a 2005 and the manufactre date on the radio is 3/05. ANy one else have this problem?
