header installation

Gibson suggests the use of silicone in their instructions. They don't tell you where to use it. I am thinking that you are supposed to use it on the gasket...does this prevent the gasket from sealing properly if it isn't put on evenly...or the bolts have uneven tightening?

i have gibson headers on my truck, i did not use the new exhaust gaskets . they look like junk. the oem metal gasket is way better. also you will need a new gasket for the drivers side header to pipe area. it is a non reuseable crush gasket/ as far as the silicone on exhaust? i dont think so. i realy dont think you need it anywhere.

Thanks for the tip man! Yeah I agree with the new gaskets. I had to use a helacoil to fix a stripped header bolt and put in the a new OEM gasket...no problems...in fact, I am thinking about taking off the other becuase I heard they are proned to leak. Did you notice any gains in the low end?

I used the gasket sealer on my gaskets when I put them in. I stripped a header bolt and it proabably saved from an immediate gasket leak. I agree with jt1872001, I think that the Gibson gaskets look like junk, and put the OEM gasket back on. It does fine and I notice that I get imporve performance in the 2000-4000 RPM...however, Gibson claims that it should improve from idle, which it did not....anyone know if this means I might have a small leak somewhere?
