My 1990 Silverado's speedometer is acting really screwy...Sometimes it'll work fine, other times it seems to get stuck in the cluster...and other times it wont work at all. I tapped the dash and it seemed to work for awhile, now it doesnt work at all without me tapping on the dash. And even sometimes that doesnt work..Do i have to change out the cluster? or is there a loose wire somewhere i have to resolder? bad grounds maybe? or is the VSS on the back of the tranny to blame?

If you're driving along and the speedo is not working and you smack the dash and it starts working, I think that pretty much narrows it down to the cluster. If the indicator ever stays above zero with the key off, then it's definitely a problem in the cluster and not any sort of connection problem.

how much would a new cluster run me? can i swap it out and put a cluster in with a tach and just run a wire to the distributer to get rpm's? will it be plug and play or do i have to do alot of extra sopldering to get it to work? id really like to get rid of the moon gayges if at all possible...maybe swap in a 454ss cluster from a 1990 that has an automatic...can you give me a rundown on how to do the swap if possible? If not then can i get a cluster somewhere aftermarket instead of through the dealer?

We don't do modifications or swaps of different parts into vehicles they don't belong, so I have no experience with that. And I'm not a parts guy so I can't help you with parts prices.

Sorry I couldn't be more help.
