Headlights

I have an '05 GMC Crew Cab 2wd. I'm sure this is probably going to sound silly, but is there a way to make the headlights go off when I'm sitting with the truck in PARK. I've looked through the owner's manual and can't find anything. I'd also heard that you can put on the emergency brake, but no luck with that either. Just curious. Thanks in advance for your assistance.

I'm guessing, but if it's like the 2004's you should be able to turn the headlight knob to the left (against the spring pressure) and let it return to the auto position. That overrides the automatic light mode (including DRLs). To turn them on you can either turn the switch to the manual on position or turn auto mode back on by rotating the knob to the left against the spring again.

 

The 2003 Trailblazer had the same functionality, but with one improvement over my truck's- there is actually a little light near the switch to let you know if the automatic light mode is On. If that light is out, the auto setting is Off. I sure wish our trucks had that too.

USA1fan is correct. It works like a push-button switch. Rotate it counter clockwise and let it go, this will disable the head and park lights and then you can manually turn the parks or heads back on if you want (by rotating the switch clockwise to the two other positions). To return to auto just turn the switch again or turn the key off and back on again, it defaults to auto. He is also correct about the 03's. My 03 GMC has a little indicator light that turns green when the manual function is enabled. Also, if it is dark outside, your instrument panel lights will still automatically come on even if the switch is in the manual mode. Make sense, just try it, it is pretty self explanitory.
