Strange Tranny problem on 05 Sierra?

I have a problem, and I just wanted to see if any of you had seen it as well. Every once in a while my tranny doesnt seem to engage after I stop at a stop light. I stop, and when I get back on the gas it just sits there for a second. Then, when it does catch it thumps and takes off. This only happens about once every couple of months.

I have also had problems with reverse twice. When I put it in reverse (from park) it didnt engage. I then went back to park, and tried reverse again. Both times this worked.

I took it in today. They said that they cant find anything wrong. They were going to update all the computer programs, and give it back.

Have any of you seen this?

My 2000 Silverado did this when I first bought it, but they did a software upgrade on it and I have never had it happen since (so, around 5 years now). If it is the same issue, I am amazed that it is happening still on the new trucks.

It was really annoying though when it did happen and at least once it scared the heck out of me when I was trying to cross a street. Not fun...

They did a software upgrade for me today. I'll wait and see what happens.

Mine went in three times for this. I guess there is a TSB that states this is 'normal'.

My old S10 and my 04 Silverado do this in reverse. I think it's some kind of timing precaution. Because one time I accidentally shifted into R and the engine cut off for ovbious safety reasons. If you shift into R and get on the gas quickly, it won't engage and you'll end up spinning the tires.

Am I eating the right cereal or what? ;>) My '05 Z71 isn't doing this. Lordie, I hope it doesn't because my dealer wouldn't know what to do and would claim it couldn't duplicate the problem, going by past experiences.

Keep us informed.

Well, it certainly sounds like the exact same problem I had and like I said, it hasn't returned in the last 5 years since they did the upgrade. If your truck is still doing it and under warranty, I would drive it up to the service entrance and park it there until they fix it. It certainly is NOT normal as far as I am concerned.

If they argue, I would just simply ask them to provide the explanation in writing and then try and get in touch with the area service rep to discuss it.

Good luck!

I'm not done with it by any means. Next time it does happens, the truck will go back. If they still dont find anything, I will be placing a call to the 800 number. I've talked to them before about issues with my 02 trailblazer. This is my second new GM, and if it keeps up it will be my last.

my '04 does this also (both forward & reverse) and i've had it in several times to get it checked, and of course they say there are no upgrades necessary and it is normal. Story of my life...

The no reverse issue there is a TSB and a fix for.... the issue with not shifting when you are ready to go is just a software update..... but it did not fix my truck.....

Let me clarify, I don't have "no reverse" It's the not shifting when i'm ready to gotype of problem, and i've noticed it the most in forward, but a couple times in reverse also. This hasn't happened all that often, and not in a while (knock on wood).

I tend to agree that it must be a software issue, because i don't see in other problems - fluid looks fine, etc. And so it goes...

Hi folks,

Wow, this is wild. I was just going through the topics this morning and came upon this one. Well, yesterday for the first time ever, my truck had a very slight hestitation of the line at a light just as you are all describing. I will wait and see if it does it again. If so, I will take it in. If anyone has seen a TSB for this let me know please. My dealer is a tuff one to get along with.
