Gn 9.5 rear end

Is this a new rear end or has it been used for a while?I have a Vortec Max comming and am trying to find some info on the rear end and the M70 trans that they are using.Is this the rear end they put in the HD1500?I thought that was a 10.5.

I can't find a web site that describes these things.

I think you are talking about the 14 Bolt Semi Float with a 9.5" ring gear. Yes, these axles have been around for a long time. They are presently used in the 1500HD, 2500 Suburban/Yukon XL, 2500 Avalanche and some other 3/4 ton trucks. The HD uses the 10.5" and 11.5" ring gears depending on the motor/trans combo on a full float axle. Unfortunately, I can't help you with the tranny.

M70 is a 4L70E. It is just a heavier duty version of the 4L65E. And the 4L65E is just a heavier version of a 4L60E.
