took truck in for repairs

Hey gang..had my first real issues with my 03 Sierra W/T.

I had a real bad resonance (humming sound) coming from underneath of the truck and also had what i would describe as a duck sound coming from right under my seat in the suspension.

turns out, the dealer wanted to rotate my tires and balance to start off, for $40. told them, i would rotate them when i did my oil change..so, dont bother.

they said that my resonance was coming from the exhaust system. something to do with putting welds on the muffler and exhaust here and there??????

that didnt make much of any sense to me. they wanted another $40 for this. i said no thanks. I plan on doing a flowmaster on the truck one of these months.

ok, now to the broken stuff. :fume:

there are two mounts that are riveted on our trucks that connect to the rear of the torsion arms to the frame. inside of the brackets are rubber bushings. well, mine were shot. the rubber was cracked and that was causing the squeeling. they said they had to hook up a sound device to the truck and drive it around and have it isolate where the sound was coming from...and that is where it lead them to. so they changed them out and bolted them (not riveted like it came from the factory) back into place. cost....$352 :seeya:

i go and pick up the truck and as soon as i go over a bump, in the dealership parking lot, i get that same duck sound coming from the truck...WTF!!! i go back into the service manager's desk and asked him what other ideas he had....because the truck is not fixed and is no better.....

the cool part was that he was nice enough and felt sorry for putting me out. so, i dropped the truck off again, for two days, and get a call yesterday saying the truck is ready to be picked up.

i did find out that they never test drove it the first time it was "fixed." the second time, they did.

they didnt torque the new bolts properly..just went straight to 120 ft lbs instead of goin in increments and in a pattern...so, they did it correctly and that solved my duck issues.

also, more good news. they replaced the front U Joint on the driveshaft that goes from the transfer case to the front axle. this was the cause of my resonance. this was free..labor too. the service manager said that they want our business again in the future (yeah, right.)

anyhoo, two new torsion bar mounts and a new U Joint. the truck rides quiet and solid again.

sorry for making a long post, just wanted to let everyone know what had happened.

thanks for listening..
