You could install a deep tranny pan. Most of them have provisions for a temp sending unit right in the pan. PM me if you need more info.

The easiest way is to install a new cluster, at least it was on my 04.

Much easier to just buy a new gauge cluster. You can get a Denali or Escalade one fairly reasonable. In fact, I saw one here for about $200. Takes about 15 mins to put in and very cool.
