new tires

Well i think im going to go and put some new rubber on this truck and was wondering if the bigger 285 size is the way to go?If it cause any extra stress on the front end components i would rather stay stock with the 265 size, what have most of you guys gone with when you put a new set of tires on and what were the results?I think im going to go with the bfg ko tires they never failed me on my s10 so i dont see the need to change brands, i need something that bites into snow good which i know atleast with the zr2 did very well with the ko's plus no tires looks better imo!

The reason im asking about the 285 size is when im going up my driveway at a angle i dont see how i can fit bigger treads on there without it rubbing like crazy or is a 285 tire just wider and not a bigger diameter?

I have 265's and wish I had gone with a 285. As far as rubbing it will be minor if any, and I think a few turns on the torsion bars typically elimnates it. I haven't heard for sure in a while though.

Since you have the stock 16's then I would go with 285's. Its amazing at the difference it will make in your trucks appearance. Depending on tire brand you can probably fit them with no turns of the torsion bars. But, just in case I would get the tire shop to give them a couple of turns. You will also need an alignment afterwards.

Nope i have the 17" rims that come on the 05's but if it requires a t-bar crank then im going with the 265's i am not messing with those bars, did it on my first s10 and had serious problems from it and was a total mistake messing with them! The next s10 was not nearly as bad and didnt suffer from alot of cv problems that i did when messing with the t-bars, i only adjusted them on the second one when it called for it to fix sagging issues after some miles!I have seen nothing but problems when people mess with those bars not to mention screwing up the ride quality.

I have absolutely no rubbing, and i have the 17s. I did not crank t-bars or anything. Haven't noticed any problems or any differences, other than good ones like the feel of actually having sidewalls with some stiffness and fuller looking wheelwells.

Well, since you have 17's then you are in the same boat that I am in. I am going with 265/70/17 Bridgestone Dueler A/T Revo's. :banghead: These tires are so nice!! But, I am have been debating on putting BFG A/T's in that size on my truck also. I will have to look into those tires alittle more. I have had BFG's on all my previous vehicles and had no problems but dueler revo's are so nice looking. Anyway, back on point(sorry about that). You can put 285's on there but I wouldnt, and this is why. Robot225's truck has 3.73's and more than likely yours has what mine does, 3.42's. I wouldn't suggest going to that tall of a tire with 3.42's.

Thanks for the responces everyone, i decided to go with the 265/70/17 bfg ko tires.I got over 75k on my last set on my zr2 and loved the traction in wet and snow conditions and never got a flat in a 130,000 miles on two sets.I coudnt justify switching to a revo when these stock bridgestones are such peices of crap, and imo i still think the bfg look better then the revos just my opinion though!

I paid 195.00 per tire and he is giving me 70.00 per tire for my useless bridgestone oe's, i think 125 per tire is a hell of a deal because i wouldnt spend 5 bucks per tire on these oe ones they are that useless!
