Aftermarket HU and keep BOSE

I've done some reading and was curious what would happen if you got a aftermarket head unit and left the bose system in place. Really dont want to replace everything.

I went by a car audio store in town this afternoon and they said it can be done but they refused to tell me what they use to make it work..... does anyone know what it is?

 

FWIW they quoted me $85 without OnStar and $125 with it for the part and installation.

I'm not sure why you would do that since the head isn't the worst part of the system. The Bose speakers and amp are weak and do not provide the highs and lows well. I have both but only by accident. I installed an aftermarket head and amps and replaced the door speakers and added a sub.... Later I installed a TNR NAV and relocated the Alpine head down to the "cubby" above the cup holders. I still rock the house wth the Alpine but I can turn it off and turn up the NAV radio and listen to it through the far rear pillar speakers that were left in place. Didn't plan it that way.

I will replace them eventually but for now I would like to get a good head unit and keep the Bose system for another month or so..... taking baby steps. However, I do have a Zapco Reference 500.1 amp and JL Audio 12W6V2 going in tomorrow Need to build a sub box that will hold the beast first though.

Peripheral GMAH24B is what you need to add a head to a bose system and maintain onstar as well. You may also need a door chime module as I can't remember if the 23B now incorporates that or if it is separate (you lose door chime when the radio is removed).
