GM TECH,
I came across some more info. from another Master Tech. A P.I.P. #3569 was mentioned and it was recommend that my dealer contact TAC. Something about engineering requesting info. on vehicles regarding whine noises.
My dealer said this was just a memo bullitin asking dealers to report this symptom to engineering by e-mail. No cure is recommended or known at this time. What can you tell me about the term whisper quiet gears relating to the 1/2 ton trucks starting in 1999?
Another tech I know in an independent shop who has built-repaired many rear ends thinks my rear end was never set up properly from the factory and may have been set up with the same dimensions as it was from the factory once again, so even though the ring and pinion was replaced, it is no better than it was before.
Wow! What to do next?
This has nothing to do with the rear end, but my new truck also had a coolant leak at the water pump at 600 miles. Was leaking where the pipe enters the top of the pump housing assy. The pipe connects the water pump housing to the upper radiator hose. Have you ever seen this defect before? My dealer replaced the assy. and have not had any issue with it since. Just found it unusual. Not sure how the upper pipe is sealed to the water pump housing. Just a swedge fit?
Thanks again for your time. perksilverado
