Foglamps are not allowed to come on automatically by default as they are not legal for operation all the time like headlamps are. They are only legal in most states if the weather conditions are less than perfect, such as, snow-rain-fog-haze-dust etc.

BTW, did your fog lamps from the factory get aimed correctly. My 2004 were pointed up way to high. Used an Allen wrench to tweak them down properly.

Good luck!

It's very simple to have the fogs on with the lights. One simple wire to to change on the BCM under the dash. On my 02 I only needed to cut and ground one wire, thats it. On the 03's and up you add a RedioShack diodo between two wires. Very simple, I'll see if i can find those directions again!

Why the he** do people think they need the fog lamps on all the time? They're FOG lamps. Here in Arizona it's never foggy and every jack-a** in town is driving around with their fog lamps on. You can't see any better. It only blinds on-coming traffic. It's like these guys riding motorcycles with the high-beams on all of the time. Doesn't help. I can't see the motorcycle any better when I'm looking away from it because it's d**n high beams are blinding me. :fume:

mjwencl,

I also had to adjust my foglights after I received my 05 2500HD from the factory. They were aimed high from the factory so I adjusted them with an allen wrench until they were aimed correctly. They would blind people before and especially when I was towing.

I beg to differ. If I get a chance I will take some pics to post of the difference the fog lights make as opposed to the regular lights on my truck. It is like night and day. I use them moreso to see more towards the sides of the road. Not sure if the lights differ by quality depending on what model you have though. (ie. W/T, LS, LT). The ones in my 2004 LT seem a hell of a lot better than my 99 LS. I also bought this truck used...so maybe the previous owner replaced the bulbs, in which case, I stand corrected hehe.

+1

I use them especially when I know there are critters around that like to try committing suicide by jumping out in front of my truck.

If they are blinding you, I'm thinking more that they are not aimed properly. They are supposed to be aimed low, so you shouldn't be blinded by them. I do realize the exception being all those kiddies running around with the imitation blue fog lights on their honda weedeaters....I mean civics.

Yeah, I'm really only referring to driving in the city. Around town here, most main city streets have two lanes (sometimes three) in each direction separated by a left-turn (suicide) lane. All are FULLY lined with street lights. No fog lights needed at all. No deer. No critters. Nothing. I totally understand long dark rural stretches. In fact, there are some roads I've driven on where I wished I had about 10 KC's on a roll bar to light the way. In my above post, I'm only referring to the city. :flag:

(oh, and I agree, those little import fast'n'ferious street racing turd cars gotta go)

Sorry. I live out in the country and don't really drive my personal truck in the city much. I assumed you meant in general driving wherever. Thanks for clariffying :flag:
