welding stainless

I need to have a new flange welded to my stock stainless exhaust, where it meets the header flange. Do I need to look for a shop that can weld stainless or is this something I shouldn't worry about?

What happened originally was the welds from the factory rusted out and cracked giving me an exhaust leak. It was re-welded once before but those welds cracked have cracked again.

nothing special about welding stainless steel. If you want the welds for be rust free though you must use stainless wire or rods.

I would just ask the exhaust shop, but I am sure that is what they use.

I would go to a welding shop where they have the stainless setup there. Most exhaust shops will only have the reg steel for welding and they aren't going to change it out. instead they'll give you a line of bull about how reg steel wire will work just fine. That's what I would do.

Unless you get it welded with Stainless it will rust through again, you will have to keep getting it welded.

Definitly make sure they are using stainless rods. I have been through this before.

Thanks for everyone's input! Sounds like I need to visit a custom muffler shop and not the local MufflX chain. There are a few privately-owned shops in my area that I can easily stroll into to quiz them.

You can immediately tell if they know their stuff. (Once a guy told me "Chevy don't put stainless from the factory cuz it's too expensive." I just laughed!)
