2500HD slower than 2500LD?

I went from a 2001 2500 light duty with the 6.0, to a 2004 2500HD with the same 6.0. The light duty could sorta snap your head, while the HD barely wakes you up? Did they switch trannies on me? Can the HD frame and the difference of extended to crew cab be that friggin heavy? Is it true the 2500HD is the same as a regular 3500? Has anyone had any problems with the factory locker wearing out with larger tires?(285's)

I think you are feeling the difference between the old cable throttle and the new "improved" throttle by wire crap that doesn't give you WOT until it is good and ready to.

Yes the truck is much heavier! That will make a difference for sure!!!

Also, if you didn't have the 285's on your LD then you will notice a pretty good torque loss... I'm guessing your new effective gear ratio has gone from 4.10's to something like 3.60's. (I'm sure someone here has the exact formula to let you know).

And yes the 2500HD has a GVW of 9200 lbs. which makes it the equivelent of an old 3500 SRW series truck.

I'm going by the "performace" of both trucks when I first had them stock. The LD did have the 3.73's and the HD with the 4.10's. And the new ratio (32.8" dia. 285's) is now 3.82's. Thanks.

I agree with 05HD. It's that "drive by wire" throttle body combined with the stupid torque management control. Nothing that a Wester's tune can't take care of. :seeya:

I hate the stupid electronic throttle, i think it is usless... What are the advantages? It's garbage as far asd im concerned. Leave well enough alone, it also (to me) makes a very uncomfortable drive, every bump i watch my rpms jump!

PS --- It also makes it tough while creeping up a wet hill or in a soggy lawn or muddy area. With a cable you can hold you foot in one spot and creep through a wet area at a constant (less torquey) speed. Where as the electronic you try to be as smooth creeping through mud as you can so as not to spin and, one bump and the throttle drops, rpms go up quick, and your spinning! Thats a true 2x4 driver comment, lol. You 4x4 guys prolly dont care, lol.

2 Wheel or 4

A tough tire can make all the difference. I've seen a stock 2 wheel go farther than a 4 wheel with all terrains. I know, I know... sometimes it just the driver, but you can drive a 2 wheel in places you wouldn't normally think if you take the time to WALK THE LINE, BEFORE YOU DANCE THE REDLINE. I'm a big fan of tires that get the job done. But I do agree with you. Thanks for the input.

You guys complaining about the drive by wire:

Do your trucks have a slight lunge while using the cruise control in hilly areas? When mine is going down hills, you can barely feel it but it's enough to annoy me.

Mine is a five speed but I was wondering if the auto trannys had the same problem.

Do the dealers have any upgrades for the computer to fix this or do you have to go aftermarket?

Nope, glides like butter up and down hills. Don't use the cruise much, not too much freeway time for me....

Does the LD have a 4L65E or a 4L80E? That would make a big difference.

Well, I traded that one in, and I couldn't tell ya. I kept it all stock so I never looked into any of that stuff.

The LD has the 4L80.

When I use the cruise, if there is an incline, it always downshifts 2 gears....really annoys me. One gear would be fine, but why two?

:D

Not too many big hills around here but my auto is always smooth on the few we have, only kicks down when towing with cruise on.

Only lunge I've noticed is every once in a while from a dead stop, feels like the computer wasn't paying attention or something when I asked it to open the throttle some, then wakes up all of the sudden and takes off harder than intended.

Funny, when I got rid of my 99 1/2 ton Silverado with the 5.3L for a 2004HD w/ the 8.1L/Allison, I thought I would more than make up for the increased GVW but I honestly think that my old truck was quicker. I mainly bought the HD to tow but it does suck gettin spanked by Ford F-150s.
