Remote start system

Hey there,

I want a remote start system for my 1999 SLT Chevrolet Suburban. I do not know what passlock or passkey are, nor if my car is equipped with them.

How do I tell?

What is the best system to use with this year suburban?

In the end, I want to have 1 remote to control the functions that looks similar to the original GM FOB.

Can anyone guide me in these questions?

Thanks in advance,

Thanks for the update. I thought that the passlock system had a resistor in the key.

Mine does not (see picture)

How does passlock work without a chip in the key?

Even more, how do i choose a remote starter system for my rig? Does GM offer one?

thanks

The key (no pun intended) is in the name. PassLOCK is in the lock itself. PassKEY is the one with the chip in the key. You have passlock, hence the key is nothing special.

With passlock, the sensor is in the lock housing and the cylinder has a magnet which passes by it when you turn the lock with the key. If a thief could turn the lock without the key, he could easily start your vehicle. But as that's nearly impossible, the system works well.

Ultrastart is a good product. GM dealers here sell them. The remote for them is identical to the factory one in shape and size. The only difference is in the graphics on the buttons.
