2003 4WD RPO Code

I have a 2003 4WD Silverado that was sold to me as a Z-71. Did chevy every make a Z-71 without the Z-71 suspension? Mine has RPO code Z83.

Guessing it doesn't have the Z71 RPO, but it has a Z71 sticker? Does it have skid plates?

Nope,If its a true "Z71" it will say "Z71" on the option code label (In the glovebox)

 

The Z83 is the standard suspension,You also could still have the skid plates,even without Z71,They are available as a separate option as RPO Code NZZ.

 

Some dealer probably just added the Z71 decals to help it sell.

We have a used car dealer around here that buys those decals off of us all the time to add them to non-Z71 trucks,I told him one day that he's "ripping people off" selling them a truck that they think is a Z71 when its not,He didn't care at all....typical salesman And they wonder why they have a bad name.
