Hello everyone,

Tried doing a searchj on this topic but had no luck.

Ive got a 2000 silverado 1500 Z71 with the trailering package. Has the 7 prong plug for the trailer lights.

I hooked my trailer up last night and all lights work except the brake lights. The running lights are fine, signals are fine but when I apply the brakes the trailer lights shut off. I put the trailer on my brothers truck and all lights are fine on the trailer.

As a note the trailer has the flat 4 prong connector, so I have the adaptor that goes into my 7 prong on the truck.

Does anyone have a scematic of the 7 prong plug so I can try and figure out whats going on..........or any suggestions on where I should start to check..........thanks everyone.........always appreciated....

Double check the fuses in the main electrical center. Based on the wiring diagram in the haynes manual (I didn't want to pull out the phonebook sized shop manual), the trailer brake lights are slaved off of the CHMSL (highmount stop light). See if that's working, and if not, check its fuse. I'd also be doubly sure and see if there's a fuse marked "TRL STOP" just in case.

Also, the color of the stop light wires on the 7-pin plug will be light blue.

Yeah that happened to me and it was the fuses, There are two locations under the hood and driver side of dash. I bet it is one of the fuses. Good luck!!!

HO..........What year is your brothers truck? Which truck is the

adapter from?

Remember, GM changed the wiring set up in the trailer plug and

harness in 03? and up models so the plugs from the 03? and up

will be wired differently than the 99-02s.

Its best to check the plug wiring operation with a test light to be

sure what operates what.

Simple fix by swapping a few wires around.............

Thanks for that web link............will definately help when I doble check the wiring on my truck.

Also, my brothers truck is a ford exploder :banghead: ........I just wanted to make sure the trailer lights weren't at fault for the brake lights not working.

My truck is a 2000 silverado 1500 Z71.......with trailering package........I have the adaptor that is a 7pin to a 4pin adaptor as the trailer has a 4pin plug. :shakehead:
