3/4 ton newer Suburban

Looking to get rid of the wifes 02 Tahoe and maybe step up to a 3/4 ton Sub with the 6.0 liter. There are some pretty killer deals out there for some of the leftover 05's.

Have three kids so this would be mostly for family use. I would be looking at a 1/2 ton Sub but Chevy went and changed the rear ends to a 3.42 with the 5.3 motor which is a joke. The Tahoe we have with the same motor has a 3.73.

The 3/4ton has the larger motor and 3.73 gears and can be bought for about the same as a 1/2 ton.

Just looking for opinions.

Thanks

Just to let you know,GM lifted the "no 3.73" restriction on the 1/2 tons in mid-'05.

You can get 3.73's now on the 1/2 tons,But they seem hard to find.

I have an 04 Yukon XL with the 6.0 and 4.10's, I believe. It's quite a gas hog but powerful and reliable. I've been very happy with it so far, FWIW.

I have an '05 3/4 ton, but with the 8.1L engine. This is one beast, and I love it. I'm up to 310 dynoed rwhp at this point, and headed for more. I believe you will find it to be a great road vehicle, and if you tow at all, you'll love it, as well.

The fit and finish are great, and the space and capacity is unbeatable. If that is what you want, go for it.

I have had the 2002 6.0L Suburban listed in my signature since last January. With 65,000+ miles now on the vehicle, I am happy with the fit/finish. As far as performance, it always felt sluggish getting to speed compared to my 99 (ECSB 5.3L/3.73) and '05 (RCLB 5.3L/3.42) trucks before the Wait For Me Tune. One thing I like about the 3/4 ton vs. the 1/2 ton Suburban is the leaf spring rear for towing. The ride of the 3/4 Ton can be stiff (non autoride) if the rear tires are inflated to the full 8600 GVW air pressure if you are unloaded also. The 6.0L also does a better job pulling our 27' travel trailer in the hills than the 99 5.3L did. Good luck.
