I gotta the 50, cat back single 3 inch on my yukon, i say it was well worth the money, its got a good deep mellow sound, nothing much for interior noise either and not loud enough for the cops/other people give me s**t.. the only thing i wish i could do it remove my cat's to get it a lil louder, as i dont need em in alberta...

I have a Flowmaster 50 series, single in and dual out. My tail pipes are 2 1/2" with 3" stainless tips that exit at sides just over the rear shackles. It sounds mellow and sweet at an idle, if you stand on it, it sounds more like a high performance car then a truck. My wife even likes the way it sounds.

As for performance, I don't think it matters what muffler system you go to, it won't give you any power gains or very little, I gained a few MPG towing and the engine runs a bit cooler. I think I lost bottom end torque changing over from the stock exhaust.

But that sweet sweet sound was worth every penny! :flag:

I have a hard time down loading pictures let alone recording some thing and then posting it. I could ask my wife if she would mind laying down in the box with a microphone while I let it dangle down the road. :flag:

Flowmaster has a web site that you can listen to different muffler applications.

One of my suppliers has the same truck as mine, he put the same 50 series muffler on with 3" tail pipes that exits below his rear bumper. His truck is much louder and deeper sounding, actually, I like the way his sounds at an idle but not at higher rev's. He said that he gets alot of droaning at 1800 rpm.

On a stock truck, I don't think you'll notice any real difference in performance with any of these mufflers. The only difference will be the sound. The 50 will be louder than your 70, but quieter than the 40.

Was just curious. I had flowmaster 40's on my 99 Silverado 4.8 sounded really nice. The website has some vehicle setups, but I'd like to hear more varieties. They dont always seem to have vehicles close to mine. Though I havent checked lately.

It all depends on what you are looking for. I have the 40 series with a 3in catback and it sound hella mean. If you are going for the intimidating sound than I would go for the 40 series if you are going for something that is quiet while cruising but loud WOT then go for the 50 series. Personally I like the 40 series better because it just has a really mean sound. I hope that helped you out some.

What do you mean with at turndown? Do you mean turndown just behind the muffler? If that's the case, it will definitely be louder and if you lose any power/backpressure, it should be negligible.

The 40 Series is THE classic Flowmaster sound. I have the 50, but I want something in between the two. I think I'm going to have the 3"x18" chrome tips removed and turn the exhaust down just in front of the rearend. That should turn it up a bit without being too harsh.

I know this thread is about Flowmasters but in my opinion you can't beat a Magnaflow! I just put a catback on my 03 4x4 and I LOVE it - wouldn't even consider any other exhaust for my truck - I drive mine daily (just about 100mi/day) and I have to use my hands free on conversations while driving because of my job and the Magnaflow gives me the best of both worlds. Just my .02 though.

Alright guys...I am going crazy here...

the big debate is now between the flowmaster 50 series or the magnaflow.....

I CANNOT DECIDE

they are a similar price.

Can anyone give me the pros/cons of each exhaust. Any one have any good sound clips of the magnaflows...i listened to their website and it sucked...but i listened to the flowmaster site and it sounded great.

If you are a magnaflow supporter please post an audio clip!!!

I just checked the Flowmaster website and they have a new 30 series three chamber muffler that's supposed to be between the 40 and 50 series. I may go that route.
