AIRBAG LIGHT on after Sterring sensor replaceemnt

I just recently replaced my sterring sensor and now the AIRBAG light is on . Does this indicate that it is disabled and won't deploy ? Is there any possibility of it deploying ? Also is there a way to reset it ?

That means there is a problen in the circuit, and will not deploy when needed. Can it deploy? I don't know. Did the steering wheel spin when the steering shaft was disconnected when you replaced the sensor? If so, that might have damaged the clock spring harness for the air bag.

I agree with Rammer. If you let the shaft turn while you were doing this there's a good chance you damaged the SIR coil (clock spring).

An SIR light that's on COULD result in an airbag that won't deploy in a crash, but it's not a given. Depends on what's wrong. The likelyhood of it deploying out of the clear blue is slim to none. Seen lots of airbag problems. Only saw one that caused an airbag to deploy and that was a vehicle that had been in a flood and had an airbag module full of water.

Yes the wheel did spin but did not here anything break. Steering is back to normal and the light just popped on and stays on. Is there a way to reset. If the clock spring is not broken, is there a way to actually reset this ? THanks for the information. I am still concerned though about the airbag deploying or the possibility.

Replacing the bag's harness, if that is the problem, should fix it.

If the Clock Spring(wire harness) is the problem, I doubt it would be setting off the SES light if it wasn't damaged and it should then be replaced. Resetting of the light will not fix a hardware problem.

Thanks much for the information and checked it out last night and you were right it's busted. Does anyone know the part number replacement ? Is the replacement pretty easy to do ? Do I have to take off the whole sterring wheel or just the airbag and it sits under there ? Any and all information is greatly appreciated!
