a friend of mine is a Crimestopper dealer, and i had him install one in my truck and my father's car. i've had it in my yukon for about 2 1/2 years now. works great, but the installation is a bit of work. he soldered all connections, instead of using butt connectors or splices.

I got an UltraStart model installed by my dealer. Really like it, works great and the FOB is almost identical to the factory one that came with the truck. It also interfaces into the stock security alarm on the truck.

You also need the security bypass and the place you get your remote start from will give you what works best with their product.

What happens if your car is on already and hit the button again? Like you remote it once and not sure if its on and you remote it again?

I had a Viper 160VX professionally installed in my truck. No issues, works great.

Has anyone added a remote start to their vehicles, i found a kit but dont we need a theft over ride device as well if so anyone know where to get these?

I looked at several brands and looked at the DYI kits sold by most MFGs. and found that Viper is one of the top units on the market. Then I found that "Best Buy" has them and installs them. When I talked the service installer at Best Buy I found they had a special on and installation was included except for relays and some other wiring (about $25.00). I looked at the installation manual after he installed the unit and even with my background as a mechanic and electrical knowledge I am glad he did the job.

The manual had detailed instruction on OEM alarm systems for up to 2005 models!

I have had the unit 1 year have had no problems!

Got the same Viper one slemmer has installed last week. You do need a bypass module that is a little extra. Coolest thing about it is if you have heated leather seats, and it's below 32 deg F outside by the truck temp sensor, it turns the seats on low heat automatically! Salesman never mentioned it, think I should let them know! Also on the Viper, it is a 2 push start, meaning you hit the start button twice to start. Good idea incase you carry the remote in your pocket and it gets bumped. The remote is smaller than the factory one too.

The auxillary button can be used to roll the windows down too with a different module added. My dealer said they could add that option at any time too, doesn't have to happen at the initial install. Good luck picking one out! :banghead:

I added remote start to my factory keyfob.. Take a good hard look at the DEI products IE Viper Clifford, etc.. IMO they are the best out there..

any decent remote starter won't allow it to grind the starter. most of the ones i've used, if you hit the button again it turns the truck off.

I appreciate everyone's input being i live in the boondocks, ( ever seen delverance the movie) i will probably have to go up north to the Canadians and see what they have to offer. My only concern is it voiding the warranty on my vehicle

The best advice I could give is to let an authorized dealer install it, i.e. you're local car stereo store. I just had one installed in my wife's Honda Element and I'm glad I paid them to do the work. The installation is guaranteed for life by the installer and it's a really nice system. It's a JTI JT200S and of course there were some relays that had to be installed, but all in all, it was worth it.

Definitely let a professionally trained installer for the product do the install. There's warranty in the event they blow up the circuitry or the unit. In fact, the manufactuers strongly recommend professional installation in order for their warranty to be in effect.

Many good units have the anti-grind feature. Not wise to save a few dollars for omitting this feature.

The Viper also can be started if you hold the lock and unlock keys simultaneously. This was the case with my older 150ESP. It works the same on the 160VX.

Anyone have any experience with your starter getting hung up for a few seconds after the truck fires? My buddies does this occassionally. I was thinking of going to Tweeter for mine. $180 installed, with the module all GM's need. I asked why so cheap when compared to other places(local stereo stores) and they guy said "Volume". Anyone have a bad experience with tweeter? Are they junk remote starters?
