Dual Exhaust Question

Recommended Posts

For those of you who have true dual exhaust on the Silverado, Suburban, Av, etc., where do they put the muffler for the left bank?  With the fuel tank on the left side of the driveline, do they put both mufflers on the right side?  Just wondering.

On my 99' sierra the mufflers are on thier side next to each other on the passenger side of the truck .

Tinman, what's the verdict on the "true dual"?  Increase in fuel economy? Power?  What mufflers and hows the sound? And , of course, cost?  Thanks for any input, I'm considering that as my next upgrade.

The way eveyone talks about back pressure, back pressure, back pressure, trying to go with true duals with aftermarket mufflers would be a mistake.  Mufflers flow so well now days, that unless your making over 400HP there's no need.  Plus with the lower horse power there is a better scavenging effet with both banks of the engine running into and exiting one muffler.  Go with what you like but a single 3" in and dual 2.5" out works the best for power, sound, and easiest on the wallet.

Well see the flowmaster on my truck had little to no efect on hp. Help just a tad on mpg . Sound great. cost is not to bad(under 300) I know you need some back pressure . The mufflers are 2.5" in and 2.25 out" so there is a little back pressure. I dont think the you need much back pressure as long as you have some there. I cant wait to put duals on my 6.0L 2500. That setup will be 3"in and 2.5" out . The only diffreance will be that I will have the exhaust exit behind the rear tire instead of out the back  :D. With all that said I believe there are performance gains to be had with a dual exhaust . I think that you need to free up the intake a bit and do some reprograming to the computer. aka.jet or hypertuner.
