Wheel Bearing Whoes

Well, my front drivers side wheel bearing is sloppy and it's obviously time to replace.

 

Looks pretty straight forward from the Helms manual diagrams and instrtuctions.

 

Now if only someone has the part in town. GM's (in stock at stealership)list price is $300.12 and NAPA (not in stock)wants around $315.00 for it. GMpartrsdirect.com has it for $150.06+shipping.

 

So, has anyone done this? Are there any special instructions before I start? What kind of prices did you pay for the assembly?

Havent had to replace one from going bad, but removed and reinstalled one when but its just a matter of removing the caliper, and rotor, and unbolting the ABS sensor. Then the hub will unbolt from the steering knuckle. 1500s (six lug) have 3 bolts, all 8 lug trucks have 4.

 

I'm assuming yours is a 2wd. According to my manual: On a 4x4 You have to remove the hub nut before you remove the caliper/rotor. and DO NOT pull out the half shaft. You could damage the CV joints. Once you remove the hub nut and the brake parts. Just unbolt the hub, and it should slide off of the half shaft. It may take a few taps with a hammer to "encourage" the hub to come loose. But it shouldn't be too hard.

It's a 4x4, will be mindfull not to pull out the 1/2 shaft.

Did the replacement last night. Very simple and straight forward swap. I can see where anti-sieze on the half shaft splines is a must.
