2005 Chevy 2500HD

I have an 05 2500HD that I bought new last March. I am getting a vibration at 70 mph at around 2500 rpms or so. When I take my foot off the throttle (even just a little bit), it is instantly gone. It's a 6.0 gas job with stock tires, etc.

I did some searching on the forum here before I posted this question and all I found was that it could be an exhaust or driveshaft u-joint problem.

Has anyone else had a problem or vibration/noise similiar to this? I will take it back to the dealer but I wanted to get educated first...

Had the same problem with my 04', 2500HD. 6.0.

Dealership had it several times for the same problem. Knew the vibration was there but didnt know where it was coming from. GM engineer came to the dealership and we drove the truck. They ahad it for several days and called me to come and drive it. I was suprised that the "vibration" was nearly gone. I asked what they did and turns out it is the exhaust. They had bolted a vibration dampener to the muffler. It looks ignorant but at least I know it is nothing serious.

After I posted the message, I drove the truck and took it from 70mph to 80mph. It progressively got worse. By the time I hit 80 it was terrible... I have an appointment with the dealer and I post what the outcome is...

Hello everyone, I'm new to the site and I'm finding some real good information. Just some info on this post. I'm not a mechanic but I am fortunate to be able to get some inside information on somethings. I had this problem on my 2005 2500HD. I took mine to the dealer and they couldn't figure out the problem so I did some of my own investigating and this is what I found. The rattleing you are hearing at 70 m.p.h. is actually a rattle in the transfer case. If you have a manual shift 4X4 as I do it will be really easy to catch this one. As you are driving get to the speed you hear it the loudest and set your cruise. Have a passenger with you and have that passenger put his / her ear right on the shifter and the noise should be clear as day. The dealer actually has had a PIP sent to them from GM and I will get back with what the PIP number is, I have to find my receipt from the dealership. Because the dealerships did not know how to fix this exactly they were replacing transfer cases, and GM has specifically told them not to do this. This problem is most prevelent on trucks built in Flint, Mi and Pontiac, Mi assembly plants. The fix is to put a foam washer in. Yes it is that simple but from what I understand the transfer case has to come out to do it. This was done on my truck just 2 weeks ago and the problem is gone. I don't want to get into to many specifics but if you go to your dealer and you are having this problem you should be able to cite the PIP number and they can look it up and it will give them the fix to the problem.

Did you ever get that pip number as I am having the same problem with my manual trasfer case right now

Sorry, I never posted the PIP number for this fix. As stated on my dealer invoice "INSTALL FOAM WASHERS ON TRANSER CASE LINKAGE PER PIP3156A" I hope this helps some of you out. I have been running this fix for a few months now and have no problems.

I have similar problem w/ my 2000 2500 4x4 6.0 extend cab short bed.

Vibration starts @ 60mph and get worse as speen increases. Dealer has balanced tires, balanced both drive shafts, turned rotors, ujoints, replaced torque convertor & control valve, replaced front cv joints. Truck has been in shop over 40 days! Now they are looking into rear diff. ? Needless to say, have lost all hope dealer knows what they are doing.

had a vibration on my 05,started about 80 kmh and went to about a 120kmh then went away,turned out to be the drive shaft was out of balance!had it fixed at about 10000km and no problems yet and now I'm at about 90000km
