So about 3 years ago i had a mechanic total my 2000 camaro and i removed the monsoon cd player. I purchased a jeep and decided to have fun and since it was free (the radio) i figured a way to install it in the jeep and it worked great. After speaking with both chevy and chrysler back then and getting laughed at it became my project to attempt this. Well it worked and looked great, so good in fact everyone thought it was stock. I eventually gave this jeep to my lil brother and faced with the task of removing this radio as he wanted to upgrade to mp3 player.

To make a long story short you should of seen the faces on the dealer's when i drove back into the service dept to show them what i had done, the reply one dealer gave me said i cannot have this installed within a chrysler product as it was leaving me the possibility of a trademark infraction and they could pursue a legal battle. Now that was funny. Idiots i owned it i could do whatever i wanted to it. I just wanted to prove it could be done.

But now the fate has been relized it was replaced with an MP3 player. Replacing the radio had me thinking how much fun it was to actually convert it to work. it was fun while it lasted

I think these guys are tugging on your chain. The stereo aftermarket is a multi-billion$$$ industry complete with adapters, harnesses. In short, whatever is in your imagination can be installed in any vehicle. Get the right stuff and it is almost plug 'n play. Indeed, companies such as Metra and Crutchfield probably wouldn't be in business if copyright (????) issues were in the way of an aftermarket or mixed-brand install???????????

Maybe I'm not following the message...

Yeah I agree but the difference is that the Monsoon stereo is a GM trademark even tho its a AC Delco product. I think that's why they threw a fit. But it still didn't justify that argument.

It still doesn't matter. I mean, you can throw in Aunt Margaret's YUGO radio in a vehicle and no one can say boo! about it, regarding licensing and copyright stuff.

Now, if a person installed such a rig and then demanded support from the dealer, then that's another matter.

OK, what am I not following here.......? It is obvious that I am missing some major point.

Again and again I have said this same thing to family and friends. It shows how stupid and over zealous some dealers are. It shows there are losers in the auto industry too.

Back about 25 years ago I had a Chevy Nova that was jacked up in the rear end. When the fuel gauge stopped working the Shop supervior of the dealership said there was nothing wrong with the car.........that the gauge was not working because I had used air shocks to raise the rear of the car up.

Well after I convinced him to jack the front of the car up to make it level, guess what the gauge still did not work. The rest of his mechanics laughed at him.

Just abound every time I shop for a new vehical, 90% of the time I know more about the car/truck than the salesmen do.............. :sigh:

Holy s**t, this brings memories of my parents...

My dad bought (new) a 71 Nova...350 V8...and HE TOO had air shocks in his nova!

Then he installed headers and a Holley 4-barrel.

Ah, my dad
