Long post ahead, so grab a cold one, some leftovers and pull up a chair...

Well, let me first take this opportunity to say that I hope everyone here had a safe and enjoyable holiday weekend, be it Christmas, Hanukkah, or whatever else is left of the holidays for this time of year. My gifts this year were pretty good. Some XBox games, new clothes, and a big gift bag full of Armor All car cleaning supplies. All in all, a good haul for someone like me. Now, here's where I need your help.

I'm in line to recieve a 2005 Chevy Silverado 1500 Z71 CCSB with the 5.3 and the 4 speed auto (what is it, 4L80E?), 3.73 rear, Dark Gray Metallic/Dark Charcoal cloth with most of the bells and whistles, XM radio with CD, and just over 58k on the odo. The only real problems with it now are the passenger side fog light is broken and full of Western North Dakota red clay from Dickinson where the truck was originally from, the grill shell and bowtie are broken/loose on the driver's side, and the entire turn signal bezel with lights is able to be pulled completely away from the front of the truck, save for the wires. Those will all be fixed/replaced before I buy it. Also, a pair of bed rails and nerf bars will be installed as well. I'm getting it for just over $22k with the $2500 trade-in value for my car. This is down in Lisbon, ND where my dad lives now, and we are good family friends with the dealer. It's basically a one-man dealership where his slogan is, "If I don't have it, I'll get it." And he comes through for you every time. A real dependable guy and a hell of a salesman as far as customer service is concerned.

My question is, should I get the guy to come down a bit in final sales price because of what needs to be fixed, even though he is giving me a discount on the rails and bars, and that they will be installed before I buy it? I know that neither side wants to get the shaft in the deal's end, and he does go out of his way to get you what you are looking for, but I don't necessarily want to purchase it with said issues, and have to spend more that I can or have to, to get what I want fixed, knowhutimean?

What should I do? I'll check in from time to time this week to see what you guys say. This will be a very sharp truck when I get it, and I'll see what I can do as far as getting pics for you guys too.

Thanks for reading, and the help as well. :D

Well i just got one identical to it with the exception of xm for 21,500 and it had 18,000 miles on it. Check with hertz rental car company just a thought or find a dealer willing to come down on the price some for the repair work or convince him to repair it at dealer cost. Not sure what your trading in but remember that the dealer will often give you wholesale trade in value while selling the car at retail price. Tell him you will pay retail if he pays retail. Or if he is offering wholesale trade in then give him wholesale for the truck. of coure if your trading in a ford then take what he'll give and run. Bets of luck :P

We think the guy just bought it and drove it. Parts delivery for Napa? I dunno.

Forgot to mention that the bed isn't scratched up too bad, but I will be getting it Line-X'd.

I'm trading in my 96 Olds Cutlass Supreme 4dr @ 93k with the 3.1 V6, auto, cloth...the Series I model, or the "base" model. Still runs like a champ after nearly 10 years.

I think you're going to get raped.

An 05 with 50k on the odometer? I can bet you $ it hasent been taken care of and has had the piss beat out of it.

No way in hell I'd buy that truck. You can get a NEW F-150 4x4 here locally for what you're paying for that junk.

Spend a bit more and get a better truck.

I agree with MightyHD on this one. I'd stay away from a truck that's less than 2 years old and has over 50k on it. Especially given that there are broken pieces on it and the red clay. All that puts a red flag up for me.

But that's my personal $.02, just trying to help you out cause I know you've been waiting quite some time now to get your rig, trying to look out for ya. :)

*cough* Garage Queen *cough*

Yea after 4 and a half yrs it finally has a garage to sit in!!!

That's a bit over 4800 miles a month.

I doubt it got an oil change every month. Not a chance in hell I'd buy that truck.

If you do, I have a nice bridge I'd like to sell you in Florida.

I tend to agree w/ all of the others...the miles was the first red flag for me...and then all of the stuff that was broken on it...if the guy couldnt take the time to fix that minor of stuff what other stuff didnt he take care of

Hi -

Got to agree w/ the others and suggest you pass on this high mile whore. Plenty of good deals out there on nice trucks with fewer miles and less items to repair.

Since you're good friends with the dealer, have him find you a nicer truck (per his slogan). That's the problem with small town dealers...people who live in that town feel obligated to give the dealer their business. My family is from S. Dakota and my dad-in-law has to rotate from chevy to ford to dodge just to keep the peace.

Goodluck, and congrats on the degree.
