Odometer Problem

I have searched the site and cannot find this asked already. I have a 2001 GMC Yukon XLT 2500 with 6.0 engine. Vehicle has about 45k miles.

The odometer quit working and reads only "error". The trip meter still works, but resets itself every time the key is turned off. All other parts of the cluster works fine. I have checks fuses and can find no problems.

What do you think the problem is, and is a dealership the only place I can get it worked on? It is out of warranty obviously and need to fix it, but dont want to spend a fortune  . Thanks in advance for any help.

Hmmm, haven't seen that on the full size trucks, but I don't see where it can be anything other than the cluster itself. Even if there was no speed signal the miles would just never change, not display error. Sounds like an internal failure in the cluster.

Dealership called GM and they said it was a fried board. Removed it and sent it to the repair facility. Gonna run me $300 ish.. Aint life grand. Oh, and the heater blower blew out at the same time...another couple of hundred. Still, less than new vehicle payments.
