no lights

A guy stopped me at a stop light today and said both brake lights did not work, only the CHMSL.

I find it usual both lights went out at the same time.

My rear red lights work when it's dark and the lights are on.

Ironically my cruise just quit working also.

any chance it is the brake switch or something like that.

I checked the brake and cruise fuses and they are OK, actually I replaced them just in case they were broken in a spot I couldn't see.

Any ideas on what to check and do????

Thanks

It's not the stop lamp switch because it's the same for both the CHMSL and the regular stop lamps.

There's a couple stop lamp fuses. One in the underhood fuse box, which wouldn't be the problem because that feeds the brake light switch (see above) and then there is one each in the left IP fuse box for the CHMSL and the regular stop lamps.

If the stop lamp fuse in the IP fuse block is okay, are you sure both brake light bulbs aren't burned out? Wouldn't be the first time. You could have been riding around with one burned out for a while and finally someone mentioned it when the second one went.

I don't know if this applies to your vehicle, but on Colorados if any of the brake lights burn out, most of the time the cruise control will disable itself to give the driver a warning about it (seems pretty dumb to me though- why not just pop up a message in the DIC saying something like "BRK LT FAIL"?).

It was both bulbs burnt out.

I just thought it strange they both went out at the same time.

Like you said, one may have been out for a while before the other blew.

Now if I could just get the cruise issue resolved, I'd be happy.

I tried pulling up on the brake pedal with my foot while trying to engage the cruise button but that didn't work.

Is there a switch somewhere I can check.

I hate taking it to a stealer for something like this, everything is so expensive, but I may have to.
