Service 4WD Warning Light

The Service 4WD light came on as I was driving today. I haven't used 4WD since January and I have only used it twice since I have had the truck. I read the owners manual and it just said to have the dealer service the transfer case. I turned it off and cranked it again and the light went off. Does anyone know what exactly in the 4WD system causes this light to come on?

I think I read a few days ago about someone else having the same problem.  In summery, I think it is a faulty electronic module of some sort that GM is aware of.  It isn't very expensive from what I remember reading.

That's good news. I am just barely under warranty. 34,500 miles now

if you have autotrac its probably just the dash switch, been replacing a bunch of them for that lately

Kinda off topic, but nice truck....Where did you get the new headlights.  Do you have a part number/price.
