nerf bar install on 1500hd

need some info on installing a set of nerf bars on a 1500hd crew cab. i want to install westin bars. they come with a middle(optional ) brace. do i need it? would like it better without it, will it be strong enough without it?

Personally I think it would be a "cleaner" install without the brace, but if you want strength and longevity (depending on usage) I'd put it on....
