I BOUGHT THIS TRUCK USED ABOUT A YEAR AGO-- WAS TOLD IT HAD A LIMITED SLIP REAR END-- I DIDN'T THINK IT WAS WORKING-- I WENT TO SERVICE IT AND FOUND IT WAS NOT LIMITED SLIP-- I VERIFIED IT WITH THE RPO CODE-- I WOULD LIKE TO LOOK INTO AN AFTERMARKET LOCKER BUT DON'T KNOW THE EXACT MODEL OF THE AXLE-- IS THERE A STANDARD THEY USE ON THE 2500HD?? IS IT THE SAME AS THE 3500??

THANKS FOR ANY HELP!

Go to http://www.americanaxle.com

There is full info on the complete GM rear end info. there.

GMpowertrain.com also has full info.

Pretty sure that GM uses the same axle on all 1500/2500/3500 trucks.

Prob. except for dualies...............

There are aftermarket limited slip/posi etc. units out there.

Someone correct me but I think the 1500 and 2500 use a 9.5 (?)semi floating rear

The HD uses a 10.5 (?) full float and the 3500 (with D-max or 8.1) uses a 11.5" full float.

Not sure, but last time I checked the 2500HDs that had the 8.1 or Duramax have the 11.5" ring gear too but that might just be the newer models like 04 and 05. From what four wheeler magazine says, there is no locker for an 11.5" ring gear after market, well last article I read, but one should be developed, if not already.

my '01/8.1 has the 10.5" ring gear w/ 4:1 RP ratio. ARB makes an air locker for the rear and that's on my 'next to get' list. Have ARB selectable lockers on the Jeep and is the best hands down, IMO.

If you have the 6.0, you have a 10.5 ring gear. . .with the duramax, it should always be an 11.5. The 8.1 depends on whether you have the allison auto, or the 6 speed, and the axle ratio.
