Surface Rust Spots/Flecks

Hey guys,

Just wanted an opinion. My 2004 Crew Cab has a lot of those little rust spots in it, and I'm getting frustrated. I noticed them when I bought it new in September of 04, but thought "I can get those out" so I clay barred it, Zaino'd it, and thought I got a majority of the rust spots off, so I never thought to call the dealer.

Well, yesterday I took the truck to the do-it-yourself wash and gave it a thorough cleaning, and noticed the spots were back in full force. Called the dealer and they said they thought it just sounded like rail dust and all they would do is use a clay bar machine. Also, they said they would only cover it under warranty for the first few weeks (I have 12,000 miles on it so far). I said I had heard (from doing a search on this forum) that there was a TSB and they do some kind of an acid wash and he said nope.

THe other thing that complicates things is I have a custom 2-tone paint job from a conversion company, but I did buy it brand new from the dealer.

Do I have any grounds to try to get the dealer to fix this at this point. Is it worth it? Should i just keep clay barring and hopefully it will all go away?

It pobably is rail dust, but the flecks could be deep enough into the clear coat a claybar can't pull them out. You could try a deep scratch remover like 3M #3009? to see if that won't help. I doubt the dealer will budge any though.

you know what i would recommend. I see this problem alot on vehicles since i work at a Line-X dealer here in Ontario. You should consider getting your rockers sprayed with line-x in the Two tone colour! Never worry about rock chips or rust spots again!!!! CONSIDER IT, It will benefit you in the long run ;)

Thanks, Brandon
