05+ Fram oil filter model change

Recommended Posts

Posted

Last night I found out the 2006 version of the book that lists which oil filter to use has some changes to it. In the 2005 version it showed the Fram 3506 as the filter, now in the 2006 version it shows the 3675.

Haven't been able to find out why the change but that make sure you double check with the counter folks if they don't have a 2006 book posted.

The new filter number is about 50% longer in size. All the years prior to 2005 still show the 3506 as the filter to use.

Thought I would pass on this information. Have a great day.

Just a heads up.

Fram is about the worst junk you can buy for your truck.

Don't believe me?

Post a message and see the pictures of cut open fram's. They're all crap.

spend another $2 and get a purolator PureOne

I second that, avoid the FRAM (cardboard anti drainback valve). Wix who also supplys Napa is an excellent choice. Purolator is also. The new sythetics while pricy are even better.

Fram was bought out years, heck decades ago, and is now a cash cow.

AC delco isnt too good either. Filteration is somewhat fair, not the best.

If you're going from fram, you'd spend $2 more for a pureOne

From an a/c delco you'd spend an extra $1

You get superior filteration, good flow and excellent filter media and construction.

I thought a/c delco was good myself and used it for years, until I cut one open.

If GM makes there engines run for 250000 mi with there filters and live than why buy anythig else? I have seen engines GM ran duribility on for 100000mi and only changed the filter every 10000mi with Mobil 1 and no significant wear and went on to 1000000mi.

Why spend the money on a filter that GM does not use?

They will warrenty an A/C filter before anything else.

You are absolutely right.....A/C delco is just fine.

Fram on the other hand has problems...largely cheap endcaps of card board....the X2 isn't bad, but who wants to spend $10 on filter when you can get a better one for $4...?

AC is what I use after 500K of vehicle miles on 4 GM's.

I never said a/c delco was POOR quality. It is fair and for the same price a better filter can be bought.

Gm's "250,000" miles is probally in a lab based on hours.

Who cares I'm not getting in a pissing match over stupid oil filters. I'm just trying to give some advice.

check bobishtoilguy.com and you'll find a load of information.
