More Power

Hey Everybody.

I'm looking fo ra bit more power in my 04 Sierra 4.8L. I have already installed an AEM cold air intake,Taylor Plug wires and a cat-back system. What do you think the next "bolt -on step may be?" You hear about underdrive pulleys, electric fans, Trans Tuners, etc... Any suggestions?

You can go with a custom tune, Superchips hypertech, computer tuners will give you some hp 15 and up. Electric fans is also a good investment 10hp easy and you can do a 05 swap i think, the trans tuners will give you firmer shifts no slipage meaning your tranny will last longer and perform better.

As stated, the easiest and fastest boost is to get the ECM reprogrammed. The handhelds can do a little, but the most bang for the buck is getting a custom tune done. I'll be getting a Westers tune done (it's on sale at Tbyrne through tomorrow night too). The cost of a Westers is right on par with that you would pay for a handheld tuner, but from other's experiences posted here, there's no comparison between the two. You also get re-tunes for life, all you do is pay for shipping and handling.

The other suggestion about the 1.8 rockers is good too. SLP, Crane, Harland Sharp and others make kits for the Gen III series. I have a Harland Sharp 1.8 set sitting in a pile of parts I'm planning to install once the weather warms up (see my sig). You get similar benefits of a higher-lift cam without having to disassemble 1/2 the truck.

It all depends on your budget and how much wrenching you're willing (or able for some) to take on.

go with 1.8 ls1 roller rockers, super chips programmer, and straight pipes :flag:

Hey MM500, since your sig states you also got the HS rollers, how was the installation? Did you have to mod the valve cover at all? And how much better did it feel afterwards?

I just purchased 06 4.8 reg cab and want to purchase programmer. Does anyone have any data which shows who is better. Diablo, Hypertech, Superchips. The diablo appears to have more features.

One of my first mod's was a chip and there was a change that i could feel but the newer truck's respond much better to these mod's.

Hey, the intallation is pretty easy and not long to take, but they are a tight fit. BUT the motor won't run right with stock tuning. Cylinder one kept misfiring so i had to program it. I was going to buy the diablo sport programmer at summit up the street from my work, but heard that the super chips programmer was the better one. So after tunning with the super chips, i used the "performance program" and raised shift points and shift pressure, raised rev limiter and speed limiter too. I could tell a big difference in power after wards! pulls really strong through the rpm range. Good mods if u ask me.

OH yeah, its really fun drving down the interstate!

Cool. Thanks for the update. I kinda thought tuning would be necessary. I just ordered a westers tune and made sure the rockers were mentioned so I get the right adjustments.
