Intermittent problem

Hi all - Just found this site through a web search. I have a 2001 2500HD with the 8.1L engine, about 100k miles.

Within the last week I have had a problem starting the truck. The engine cranks over fine but doesn't start. After trying this 3 or 4 times the engine starts and then the truck runs fine. Any ideas what this problem might be?

I am suspecting the fuel pump, and I have searched on here and found similar problems that ended up being fuel pump related. I have not listened for the pump turning on when I have the problem, but will do so next time. Anything else I should be aware of?

What's the rough cost for a new fuel pump installed? Does anybody have a "hookup" to get this done in south Orane County, CA?

Thanks

Thanks for the info.. I'll get the VIN # tonight and send it to you. :banghead:

I should add that this only has happened to me three times within the last week, so I have been hesitant to take it in to get looked at because I realize it's hard to fix a problem when you can't duplicate it.

Any other ideas.. Over the last two weeks this has happened to me three times, but it hasn't happened for about 4 days now. I guess I'll wait until it gets worse before taking it in??
