Starting problem on 2000 Silverado

I have a 2000 Silverado with the 5.3L engine. Every two or three days, the engine turns over fine, but does not fire. When I release the key and try again, it starts right up. I replaced the fuel pressure regulator about 6 months ago, but it did not fix the problem. I have also tried the key vs. remote entry methods based on other threads related to the PassLock system. Any suggestions???

I think the next step would be the fuel filter, injectors, and the fuel pump. I'm having some problems with my truck now, I have to turn the key to the run position for 2-3 seconds to let the fuel pump build up the pressure then start it from there. I'm going to replace the pressure regulator first.

I had similar problem on my 2000 rado. It was related to the security feature. I believe they changed the ignition switch to fix.

Shouldn't you test the pressure at the shraeder valve first? I have never had any luck throwing money at a problem. there is always problem left after all the money is spent. Check computer codes too. do the cheap stuff first. You can use an a/c gauge set to measure pressure or buy or build a gauge. Pressure is in the 60 lb range if correct.

Thanks for the suggestions. I will try to get my hands on a gauge and check the codes, just to rule that out. I think the ignition switch might be the problem, because:

1. It doesn't matter how long I crank it the first time, but it always starts the instant I move the key to start the second time. So I don't think the pressure is the problem, and I have never had it cut out when running.

2. It seems to happen less if I lift the key up slightly as I turn it. I might try switching my key with my wife's less used key and see if that has any effect.
