The TSB for the Clunk, Chirp, Squawk!

Guys, I took my truck to the dealer yesterday (FINALLY), and I was having them look at my 4-Wheel drive switch problem.  Anyway, the service guy openly admitted that they were having problems with the problems with the Switches, and as we were talking about that, I told him about this site, and handed him the printout of the TSB for the Clunk, Chirp, Squawk thing where they replace the stock yoke, with a nickel plated yoke.  The guy said, "you have done your homework."  I just smiled.  He said, they would do it, no problem.  I was so shocked.  Still am.  ;)

I will update ya'll when I get the rig back, and let you know if that fixes the problem.  But, anyway, I am just shocked.

:)  Yeah isn't this site great for items like this.  I too had my slip yoke replaced, only after receiving the TSB from this site.  Going on 2k no problems yet....knock on wood.  Best of luck

Yeah, I was "Armed" with the TSB and gave it to my service guy and they took care of it no problem.  :)   It's been like two months and no driveline clunk.  :)

You guys are getting my hopes up ;)

But, I eagerly await the truck being returned to me, since I am in a STINKIN Dodge Neon (piece of chit) as my rental car!

I believe it does...

Clunk, Bump or Squawk when Vehicle Comes to Complete Stop or Accelerating from Complete Stop (Replace Rear Drive Shaft Nickel-Plated Slip Yoke)

#01-04-17-004

Clunk, Bump or Squawk when Vehicle Comes to Complete Stop or Accelerating from Complete Stop (Replace Rear Drive Shaft Nickel-Plated Slip Yoke )

1999-2002 Chevrolet and GMC Extended Cab Short Box Pickup Models (Silverado and Sierra)

with 4L60-E (RPO M30) or 4L80-E (RPO MT1) Automatic Transmission and Automatic 4WD (RPO NP8)

Condition

Some customers may comment on a clunk, bump or squawk noise when the vehicle comes to a stop or when accelerating from a complete stop.

Cause

A slip/stick condition between the transfer case output shaft and the drive shaft slip yoke may cause this condition.

Correction

Replace the rear drive shaft slip yoke with a new nickel plated slip yoke, P/N 12477702 (1500 Series) or 12477704 (2500 Series). Follow the service procedure below.

Also, got my truck back last nite, and my Lord, it drives like it should.  It is amazing how much that noice irked me!  I have only driven on the new yoke for 100 miles (long way to work), but it has been perfect the entire time.  Noticably better than simply greasing the driveshaft.

Now I wonder if this also applies to the 97's?  We have the clunk as well when coming to a stop (and when lifting your foot up off the brake to take off)...

I would guess it probably does, but that the TSB is a different one.  They are specific to the vehicle year/make/model...  ???

Got the yoke replaced Friday and as of yet, no problems.  They greased it before which solved the problem for about a year I think.  Hopefully this will be more long term.  Going to phone this GM rep that I got a number for and see if they'll toss the extended warranty my way.
