1999 Suburban Won't Start

My 1999 Chevy Silverado will not start. The engine turns over fine but it appears to be starving for fuel. I have checked the fuel pressure at the fuel line test port and it read 50 psi. It appeared the volume of fuel was also O.K. I then tried swapping out the Powertrain Control Module from my 1998 Chevy Silverado to see if it may be something in the module, but this did not change a thing. You can make the car run if you pour gas directly into the throttle body but the car will not stay running. Any suggestions?

if it was a clogged fuel fiter you wouldn't have 50psi of fuel.

 

what engine do you have. and do you have the gm factory alarm system on it

I don't feel it is a clogged fuel filter. I do not have a factory GM alarm system. The engine is a 5.7 liter V8 gas.

How long was is sitting?

 

I have a 2002 Tahoe. I was gone for a week and when I got home, my truck wouldn't start. I called my father in law whose mechanic friend told me to get on the ground with a rubber mallet and LIGHTLY bang on the gas tank, to break up any gunk that may have lodged itself into the fuel pump while it sat. I did this, all over the tank. Light bangs, not like it's an egg, but not like I wanted to break it. I have a plastic tank. I jumped in the truck and it started right up.

 

The mechanic said it happens a lot to the full pumps in these trucks when they sit. They gunk up easily.

Specs call for 60-66 psi fuel pressure. 50 psi isn't enough to get the engine started.
