Newbie, Just bought a diesel. Help!

Just purchased a 03 Silverado 2500 HD Crew Cab 4x4 LT with a Duramax. First Diesel and I'm clueless. Getting Transmission serviced this weekend at dealership. They replaced fuel filter free of charge last weekend due to a recall. What type of oil would you guys recommend and how often should it be changed under normal driving conditions? I have a thousand questions but I'm learning a lot just by reading the forums.

According to my oil and fuel filter monitors, it looks as though my oil will need changed about every 7500 miles, and the fuel filter will last for every other oil change.

I use Mobil 15-40 oil and a Napa 7202 filter about every 3000. It could go longer, but I do it anyways. If I used synthetic I would go alot longer. I do the fuel filter about every 10-15K miles.

Mobil Delvac is a good oil.

In my opinion during winter or in a turbocharged engine synthetic oil should be used.

Used Oil Analysis on VW TDI engines has shown that Delvac 15W-40 is as good as Delvac 1 5W-40, at least during the summer.

The difference is that Delvac 15W-40 is regular oil and Delvac 1 is synthetic.

Mobil "Truck and SUV" and Cat's 5W-40 are both the same as Delvac 1, just renamed.

I use Shell Rotella- change around 7500 miles. I buy my fuel filter and spin on transmission filters online and have them shipped to the door. I use Mobil 1 oil filter. (M1-303 I believe.

Ditto for Rotella - I use in my 83 Mercedes 300SD diesel (15W40). I also use Chevron Delo SAE 30 for my multifuel diesel deuce and a half army truck (takes 22 quarts to change the engine oil on that one). I also use NAPA oil filters for the army truck. It takes two big ones.
