Leaking oil cooler lines

Recommended Posts

I have a 98 Z71 with the tow package. The oil cooler lines are seeping oil. The cooling circuit runs from the oil filter to the heat exchanger up front at the radiator. The circuit begins at the filter with metal tubes. The tubes have hoses crimped on them right underneath the crankshaft pulley. These hoses continue on to the heat exchanger. They appear to be leaking at the hose crimp area. Anyone experience this? Any TSB's addressing this issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

GM has/had numerous problems with these on the S-series trucks.  Mine burst not to long ago requiring being towed to the dealership and new lines.  After I got it back I noticed my main bearings were shot (could tell by the sound), and it ended up needing a new crankshaft and main bearings.  Thankfully it was covered by warranty, but my lines were not leaking when they burst.  My truck is on it's 4th set of lines right now and these appear to be fine.  I think the repair was about $200 to replace the lines.

Did your lines burst at the crimp? If not where? No TSB's to your knowledge? Mine have been seeping since about 20,000 miles. I have a buddy who has a 94 that had the same problem. He mentioned something about the parts folks at his local dealership mentioning something about some superceded part #'s and some improvements made? Any of this ring a bell? Thanks for the reply.
