DIC-"REDUCED ENGINE POWER"

I was bored after work today so i decided to check some stuff out on my truck. I thought to my self i should clean the throttle body. I had a throttle body spacer from my 99 2500 sitting on the shelf so i figured i would see if it would fit. I know most people dont think they work, myself included but since i had it sitting on the shelf in my garage for several years i had to do something with it. Should have sold it to some other sucker as it turns out, lol. I removed the throttle body to find a stupid coolant hose connected to the bottom of it. Removed that just to find that the spacer wont fit because of the stupid electronic throttle motor. So now i decided to clean it good before i put it back together. I used some mothers metal polish and a cloth wheel and polished it up good. srayed it carefully with some cleaner and put it all back together. Started it up and "Reduced engine power" comes up on the display. Now the truck wont go over 30 or so and its running like crap. Wondering if i screwed something up by moving the throttle on it. Any ideas?

bessides the fact next time i get bored dont screw with my truck, lol. thanks

My suggestion would be to first try disconnecting your battery to reset your computer. If that does not work pull off the throttle body and blow it with some compressed air.

Throttle body spacers only work on wet fuel systems (Carburators) Fuel Injection systems are dry systems since they inject the fuel at the valve. Best place for the spacer is in the junk.

Tried the battery disconnect a couple times. I agree about the spacers but since it was free i wanted to try. Took it to the dealer this morning, they reprogrammed the pcm and a couple of other things, nothing worked. said they had to order a new throttle body for it. I think maybe moving the throttle blade manually may have damaged the gears in the stepper motor. Cleaned the throttle body on my 03 HD a couple of times with no problems, it also had the electronic throttle motor on it. Maybe this one just had a weak part in it. I also have cleaned the one on my 2000 1500 several times with no problems, but it has a cable throttle. have to do this when the plate starts sticking shut due to carbon build up. hope they find it to be warrenty repair, those things cant be cheap. :banghead:

There is no real need to clean the drive by wire throttle body since the PVC opening has been moved away from the throttle blades to allow the free operation of the throttle blades. I had a 03 and now my 04 plus 2 of my company trucks all with drive by wire and have had no problems and never cleaned any of them one with around 98000mi on it.

Just an update, got the truck back last night. The dealershio replaced the throttle body under warranty. Guess some plastic piece inside the throttle motor was rattling around inside it and got stuck so the throttle blade couldnt return to the closed position. Which in turn set a code and made the truck go into reduced engine power. Glad it happened now and not when i'm miles from home. Not sure what the number of the code was. Nice to see that the manual only talks about the engine going into reduced power mode if it over heats, they need to make these manuals more informative and not so much blah, blah about how to drive on hills and ice, etc. That was covered in drivers training and common sense.
