The death of a loved one

Well, saturday night I was going through an uncontrolled intersection and I saw the car coming before I went through it and he was a block away so I went through and BAM, he hit me.  The guy was doing about 50 and from what I can imagine he was eating some McDonalds food and not paying attention to the road.  He slammed into the side of the truck.  You can see the pics for the damage.  I took it into a dealer and got an estimate of about 4500 for it and no garuntees on whether or not they could get the truck back to how it was.  They'd have to bend out the floor panel and take off the doors and weld new ones on.  Well, taking all that into consideration and also that I would be w/o a truck for about 3 weeks I decided to cut my losses and trade it in.  I'm dropping it off tomorrow or wednesday and picking up a 2000 black 2 door GTP.  It's a step in a different direction, but I'm going back to school and the payments on this are easier to swallow and also the car should be a little easier to park, not to mention 240 hp on a 3500 pound car.

Now, you'd think that my weekend could not have been any worse, but what made it really suck is that I had agreed to take out a coworkers daughter to prom since her date got sick or something and cancelled on her.  So, this all happened as we left the house, only two blocks away.  So, I'm standing out there in my suit in the rain and cold for a good hour which made us really late.  If nothing else she had a really memorable prom because I know I'll never forget it.

Here's some pics of the damage, notice that the floorboard is bent in pretty good.  The lift probably saved the truck from a lot of damage considering his bumper went uner the body and just the headlight area hit the side.

This did screw me over a little bit since I'm loosing out on all of my truck mods on this and because the guy who hit me lied and said I pulled out in front of him.  Really anyone can look at the damage and see that the guy was going way too fast through the residential area.

That sure does suck man...  Thank goodness for GM-Cars.com !!!   LOL!!!

I'm just kidding with you man...  :D  I know you would much rather be driving a truck.

wow, that really sucks jon glad you too are alright... its a sham that you cant kept your truck or have traded it for another 4X4. so you still gonna visit the forum as much?

Don't worry, I'll still be hanging around and posting away, I'll just pretend that I still own it.  I was looking at the GTP or a 95-98 Z71, but I couldn't find any around here that were what I was looking for.  This was kind of an impulse buy, and I'm not getting as shafted as I thought I would on this whole ordeal.

Sin, I was plenty pissed about it, I'm surprised I kept my cool at the scene.  The guy who hit me was getting belligerent when I said I was just waiting for the cops to get there.

Well, here's a shot of the car, pardon the sunlight, but it was late in the day:

:D Sorry about your truck, and your ruined date. But what I wanna know is when can I go back to school in a 2000 GTP? Man that would be awesome. I have a 97 Bonnie and it is one awesome car. My cousin has a 95 GTP and that is one sweet ride also.

The upside is nobody got hurt. Can you imagine if you and your date would have been in some little econobox? Ouch.

That is a great looking car! I traded a '92 4x4 truck for a '92 Gran Prix SE because I thought I was tired of driving a truck. I quickly discovered that if you ever get used to driving a truck it is nearly impossible to go back to a car. Be sure, don't make it an impulse buy.

Jon you know how I feel about what happened with your truck.  My little brother just saw the pictures and he can't believe that's how the truck that was in my driveway not to long ago looks now.  Pictures of your soon-to-be new ride look great, how big are the rims on that, 17's?

tfpary, I'm not still in high school, so I don't get to cruise around there in a fast car.  My coworker asked me to take his daughter to prom because I'm probably the youngest person he knows.  The prom date was somewhat salvaged, maybe some day years and years and years from now I can look back and laugh.

Hopefully I can pick up the car tomorrow from the dealer.

Sorry to hear what happened to the truck. That's got to really suck. :D  :) Stupid drivers just piss me off.   What are you going to do with all of the mods that you put on it?

Not much I can do about the mods, they gave it a look over and the guy said that I can't take the stuff off of it between today and tomorrow.  Not that I listened, but I took a few things off to sell on the forum just to make some of my money back.  I'll post something in the for sale forum later this week, I've got so much truck stuff just laying around now.

Or should I try and jam them into a grand prix? :D
