famous bow tie

I am looking for a chevy grill bow tie emblem to replace my broken emblem. What I would really like is to apply a metallic red mylar or similar to my cracked emblem. This would make my truck unique, I think, since I have never seen a red bow tie. Mine is a 01 Z71 , all black with a putco grill. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated.

Its not my truck. I just remember coming across it some time ago while looking through cardomain. I believe he just painted it. But I have seen them sold on-line before all kinds of different colors.

just a simple question now. Does the entire emblem come out or do I need to remove the grill for ease of painting? I could just mask it off, I guess.

It pops off. Remove the grill and look behind the enblem. You squeeze the two tabs together and the bow tie pops off.

Thanks, burb. Out here in rainy California it has been nearly impossible to get any outdoor projects done. Since all I have is a canopy shelter working in it is somewhat restricted. But following your instructions I took off the bowtie and applied some metallic red spray (note: while the other half was away for a few hours I managed to paint it over the kitchen table in a warm house. If she found out I would be wearing that bowtie below the equator!). It turned out better than I had hoped. Thanks again.
