99 454 ENGINE WILL NOT RUN UNLESS YOU TAKE NUMBER 1 SPARK PLUG OUT THEN RUNS FINE EXHAUST NOT PLUGGED COMP GOOD CYL LEAKAGE OKAY ANY IDEAS ANYWHERE

About all I can guess is you might have some sparkplug wires crossed, or the timing chain has slipped a tooth. Could be a collapsed lifter, broken rocker arm or the cam has a worn lobe too. Check the firing order and plug wires first.

(and please turn off your caps, that is considered yelling!)

cam lift good new cap rotor wires firing order good gm just put crank sensor and gear in along with timing chain heads where pulled and sent out to be checked has anybody ever had this problem

Intake manifold gaskets or possibly head gasket is my best guess.

heads have been pulled cked with new gaskets it seems that when you pull number 1 plug it runs fine i also noticed clock is good on scanner if you install plug clock goes goofy had ecm checked and reflashed on tech 2 but did not make a differance

That's a different one...

Possible ignition coil driver? Maybe some kind of error related to a sensor in the ECM like: map sensor or intake air temperature sensor? The engine coolant temperature sensor is somewhat close (electrically) to the throttle position sensor in the 98's (not sure about your year).

I would probably start somewhere in there, but the error sounds like one of those "when the lights are on, the windshield washer doesn't work." Stephen King made a movie about vehicals like this.

would that affect clock time in ecm seems like when clock time present runs good when clock time goes away engine runs bad even with number one plug removed
